The weather here has finally moderated, and we are enjoying the garden with the addition of some new flowers. I have been composing every day during the daytime, coming down the home stretch of my symphony, which I hope will be done by Labor Day weekend. [UPDATE: It’s done! Click on the Symphony No. 2 tab at the top and scroll down to the fourth video to hear it.] But then a month of editing and creating players’ parts remains.
On August 17, I did this promo interview for my Homeschool Connections course (to begin Sept. 16) about the “great composers” HERE.
During the last two weeks, I finally took a few things to our favorite picture framers to be framed. One is to be a gift, so I won’t describe it here. One is Crystal’s lovely tenth anniversary card to me, with a painting of a chipmunk minister marrying two mice dressed as bride and groom. They put the inner page on which she wrote a note into an envelope attached to the back of the frame. I didn’t know they could do that. The third is this poster, a real old-fashioned screen print, completely in Russian, advertising a performance of my first symphony in Tomsk, Siberia, in a concert of “American Music”, along with music by Copland, Bernstein, and Barber. It was an honor to represent the U.S.A. in such famous company!
Crystal has been enjoying her new teaching position at St. Edward School in Nashville and feels very appreciated there already. However, we are already enjoying the prospect of our first vacation this Labor Day weekend, when we will be sharing a modern mountain cabin, called the “Breath of Heaven Cabin” in Gatlinburg, TN with our dear friends Joseph and Susannah Pearce, and their wonderful kids Leo and Evangeline. The cabin is about halfway between them in South Carolina and us in Tennessee. Here are two photos that the company has on their site of the view from the cabin porch.
At the end of this month, I will be terminating my association with my talent agency, By Arrangement with Jack Price (Till then, you can see their link to my pages on their site at the bottom of each page of this web site), who has represented my music for the past thirteen months, but with no results. In any case, I’d like to find an agent who can also represent my book(s), as well as screenplay rights and live theater show rights.
Upcoming: Fr. Fessio, head of Ignatius Press, will be leading a four-session series of discussions on my book, The Sound of Beauty, on their website and Facebook page, as part of the “FORMED Book Club”. Go HERE and scroll all the way down. A new discussion will be posted on Thursday afternoons, September 10, 17, 24, and Oct. 1. Also, look for an interview with me in “America” magazine in September, HERE.
