A new symphony, a new book, and a retirement from teaching

June, 2019 — Michael Kurek is at work on a 40+ minute, four-movement symphony. The first two movements have been completed and will be read on July 12, 2019 in Philadelphia by the Orchestra Society of Philadelphia, conducted by Ovidiu Marinescu. Plans for an official world premiere and recording will be announced as early as 2020.

Michael has completed a new book that will be released by Ignatius Press in September, 2019.  Select the “Book” tab at the top of the page for more information.

During the fall semester of 2019, Professor Kurek will be on sabbatical leave from Vanderbilt University.  He will return for the spring 2020 semester and then be promoted to Professor Emeritus, retiring from regular teaching, though he may continue teaching one course a year.  Prof. Kurek was recently renewed for another seven year contract with tenure, is in good standing, and was expected by the school to continue in the position for years to come but has made this difficult decision of his own choice, in order to devote more time to composing and writing further books.
