“Joie de vivre (Ollie’s Romp…)” Premieres

Lewes Chamber Players close up

The Lewes Chamber Players of Delaware have commissioned and are performing on Sunday, March 4, 2018 the premiere of a composition by Michael Kurek titled Joie de vivre (Ollie’s Romp on Lewes Beach) for violin, cello, piano, organ, and harpsichord.  The composition was written in part to showcase the wonderful organ and harpsichord in historic St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Lewes, Delaware, the performance venue.  “Ollie” is a dog with a wonderful joie de vivre, who is owned by two of the performers. Ollie loves to run and dig wildly in the sand on Lewes Beach!  I was inspired to try and capture his spirit of utter exuberance in this music, to which many of the residents of this beach resort town can identify.  Update, March 5:  It was a great, exceedingly warm, full-house audience and a great performance!  A romping time was had by all.  Thanks to the St. Cecilia Guild for their sponsorship of this event and T. J. Thomas’s vision in making it happen.
